Nick Jones (left), 11, and his brother Jacob, 10, paddled their first dragon boat yesterday on Lake Banook in Dartmouth. About a dozen children had a chance to try out a dragon boat as part of the third annual MMT Dragon Boat Festival, which begins tomorrow. The festival rolls across the lake to raise $100,000 for the Nova Scotia Amateur Sport Fund. About 1,500 paddlers from companies and community groups will compete in the day-long event. Teams of 21 paddlers aboard 12-metre, 680 kilogram boats will race a 200-metre course in a friendly competition. The festival is open to the public and admission is free.
