Halifax takes Bard back to England
Shakespeare by the Sea is simply beside itself, gearing up to perform Romeo and Juliet on the other side of the ocean, at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, England.
Reprising their roles as the tragic pair are Neil Hicks and Jody Stephens, seen here at Thursday's launch of the seventh season.
There's a welcome-home gala June 21 on the grounds of the Atlantic School of Theology, with a preview performance of the classic love story, which runs July 2 to August 13 at Cambridge Battery at Point Pleasant Park.
Proceeds from the $35 gala tickets will help the region's only outdoor theatre put on six other shows: A Midsummer Night's Dream, in Fort Ogilvy; Tom Stoppard's hilarious Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, at Cambridge Battery; Measure for Measure, in Martello Tower; Julius Caesar in the historic provincial courthouse on Spring Garden Road; Jeffrey Hatcher's Titanic mystery, Scotland Road, and the family show Fractured Fables Trilogy, both at locations to be announced.
For more information on the season, which runs July 1 to October 22, call 422-0295 or see www.shakespeare.ns.sympatico.ca.
